Although Amaro—a bitter-sweet herbal liqueur, popularly consumed as an after-dinner digestif—originated in Italy, similar spirits are produced all over the world. Let Ann Marshall and Scott Blackwell of High Wire Distilling Co. lead you on a global tasting tour, pointing out the botanical nuances that make each unique. Once the palate is warmed up, learn the basics of infusing botanicals to create a custom-blended Amaro. Take home a 200 ml flask of the result.
HIGH WIRE DISTILLING CO.
Scott Blackwell and Ann Marshall
Founded by husband and wife team Scott Blackwell and Ann Marshall, High Wire is dedicated to making premium handcrafted artisan spirits. All of their spirits are batch distilled in a hand-hammered German copper still to create the finest Southern spirits available. In 2017 and 2018, Blackwell and Marshall were named semifinalists for the James Beard Foundation Award for Outstanding Wine, Beer, or Spirits Professional and in 2018 were named the overall winner of Garden & Gun’s Made in the South Awards.
Stop by the Artist Cottage between 10AM–12PM Tuesday–Friday to chat with the artist and learn the process of their craft.
Under the trained eyes of Ann Marshall and Scott Blackwell of High Wire Distilling Co., try four or five barrel samples of the brand’s Jimmy Red corn bourbon, recording sensory notes (nose, taste, and finish) for each. Using those observations, attendees will have the opportunity to blend your own small-batch bourbon, taking home a 200 ml flask of your custom creation.
